Using the Mailchimp Plugin to Create a Subscribe Form

The Mailchimp plugin allows you to have a custom designed subscribe form on your blog for users to sign up to and which connects to your Mailchimp account. If you haven’t yet got a Mailchimp account, it is very easy to set up and doesn’t cost a thing! Click here to sign up now, and simply follow the instructions on the screen. It is also recommended that you create at least one Mailchimp list when you have set up your account.

Once you have an account with Mailchimp, you will have your unique API key. Enter this into the Mailchimp plugin settings. This will then connect your blog to your Mailchimp account.

Next go to the Forms option and then click on the Fields tab. Here you can edit the fields that appear in your sign up form (by default the form has the fields shown in the demo). Next along is the Messages tab where you can add / edit the form messages. In the Settings tab you will need to tick the list you want your form to correspond with. And the final tab is Appearance. To keep the form looking coherent with the rest of the theme design, make sure that ‘Inherit from [theme-name]’ is selected in the dropdown for the Form Style.

Now that the plugin is all set to go, you will want to add it to the sidebar. To do this, go to Appearance > Widgets and then drag and drop the Mailchimp Sign Up Form widget into the sidebar widget area. Here you can change the title that appears above the form if you wish.
